It's funny how I've heard and been given this phrase in different circumstances lately.
A Certain Friend told me that I seemed "strange," and while I was wondering what it meant exactly, this certain friend added that "It takes one to know one."
--- He knew I was acting strange, because he was strange person himself. I couldn't argue anymore. He was right. It's like he knew exactly where I was, or how I was feeling at that point in time.
A few days ago, Another Friend told me that Certain Friend was gay.
It's not the first time I've heard that suspicion truth be told. But it was probably the first time it was said so matter-of-factly, in my face.
Because Certain Friend, as well as Another Friend are good friends of mine, I vehemently contradicted Another Friend's "allegations."
--- I was really so sure that Certain Friend was and is not homosexual whatsoever. I argued with Another Friend that Certain Friend may seem more "feminine" than usual, but his refined mannerisms should be attributed to his good breeding and elite exposure and nothing more than that.
But Another Friend insisted, and told me with probing, almost knowing eyes, "How do you know for sure? It takes one to know one, sister."

So tell me now, what does it the phrase "It takes one to know one" really mean?
